Our mattress is protected with Protect-A-Bed! (Giveaway, ends 5/20)

protector

When I was pregnant with our first, my husband was petrified my water would break in the bed.  It was only about a year old so he was paranoid I would ruin this bed that we had spent tons of money on.  He put a waterproof cover on the bed and consequently I sweat through my pajamas every night for a month.  I hated it and made him promise to never use it again. As for now, I don't really have waterproof covers on my kids' twin sized beds because I didn't want them to sweat even more than they normally at night.  But since these beds aren't exactly ours (handed down of sorts) I'm petrified something will happen.  And they're foam.  So, yeah, the Protect-A-Bed cover came right in time. So I was thrilled to hear about the Protect-A-Bed waterproof mattress covers.   These are breathable mattress covers that repel water and other fluids.  They're also machine washable.  AND they're not horrendously expensive. So I tried this on my son's bed (the one most at risk for a … [Read more...]

Recalls Plus app alerts you to new product recalls

I feel like every time I turn around, there's another product recall.  Be it toys, cars or even food, I'm petrified I'm going to miss something and wind up hurting somebody in my family.  I just feel like I can't keep track of all of the recall warnings, even after registering all of the products we get (which I know I haven't really kept up on). Now there's a new app to help us stay aware of dangerous products that we may have in our homes:  Recalls Plus.  SheSpeaks has partnered with some bloggers to help get the word out about this useful app. You can add either whole categories of products, according to three different age ranges (newborn, infant or toddler) or input your own products specifically, along with where and when you bought it.  I see this working best from the point that you download the app going forward.  As you acquire new products, just add them into the app. But I see an even more valuable aspect to the Recalls Plus app - the food allergen list.  We … [Read more...]

Live the Life in Virginia Beach

LTL_logo_color

We got an early start on our summer plans this year.  After being denied beach time for two years running, I was bound and determined to hit the shore this year!  I was a bit dumbfounded and overwhelmed until my husband suggested Virginia Beach.  He used to visit family in the Chesapeake Bay area and has fond memories of his summers there.  Plus get this - Virginia Beach is only a 4 hour drive from DC and within a day's drive or less for two-thirds of the US population. I think many of us living up here in the Northeast overlook Virginia Beach when planning our beach getaways but I'm here to change that thinking. First, let's look at the main attraction - the beaches!  There are three main beaches: The Chesapeake Bay, Resort Area and Sandbridge.  In all, you'll find 35 miles of beach in which to claim your spot.  The best part for this former Jersey girl - they're free.  Yes, free.  No permit, no badge, no nothing.  And that's how it should be. Don't think you'll … [Read more...]

ProXeed Plus Male Fertility Supplement (Giveaway, ends 5/19)

proxeed

It's a sad fact that there are many couples out there facing infertility.  Sometimes, the situation just takes a little awareness of timing on the couple's part.  Other times, they must face more extreme measures. Thankfully, there's little steps that can be taken to help conception.  One of those easy steps is ProXeed Plus.  This is a supplement for men to increase the health of their sperm.  Healthy sperm = baby, and in less time. Taking ProXeed Plus can help improve overall sperm quality and increase sperm count and motility (how well the sperm moves - after all, they've got a long way to go!). This is not some thing that has to be choked down.  It's a lemon flavored powder that you dissolve into cold beverage twice a day.  ProXeed Plus should be taken for 6 months to make sure that it has total effect but there can be improvement within 3 months. While ProXeed Plus is not cheap, nothing that works well really is.  And it's probably less than even one visit … [Read more...]

The Midwife of Venice by Roberta Rich

midwife

The Midwife of Venice by Roberta Rich was released in February.  I had been hearing a lot of buzz about this book so I was thrilled to be given a chance to review it.  Here's a bit about the book: Hannah Levi is renowned throughout Venice for her gift at coaxing reluctant babies from their mothers—a gift aided by the secret “birthing spoons” she designed. But when a count implores her to attend to his wife, who has been laboring for days to give birth to their firstborn son, Hannah is torn. A Papal edict forbids Jews from rendering medical treatment to Christians, but the payment he offers is enough to ransom her beloved husband, Isaac, who has been captured at sea. Can Hannah refuse her duty to a suffering woman? Hannah’s choice entangles her in a treacherous family rivalry that endangers the baby and threatens her voyage to Malta, where Isaac, believing her dead in the plague, is preparing to buy his passage to a new life. Not since The Red Tent or People of the … [Read more...]

Kings & Queens by Courtney Vail Book Blast – Win a $100 Amazon gift card! Ends 5/14

kingsqueens

I'm so glad to be able to take part in the book blast for Kings & Queens by Courtney Vail!  Read on to find all about the book and then find a fantastic giveaway at the end of the post. Here's the summary of the book: Seventeen-year-old Majesty Alistair wants police to look further into her father’s fatal car wreck, hopes the baseball team she manages can reclaim the state crown, aches for Derek…or, no…maybe Alec…maybe. And she mostly wishes to retract the hateful words she said to her dad right before slamming the door in his face, only to never see him again.  All her desires get sidelined, though, when she overhears two fellow students planning a church massacre. She doubts cops will follow up on her tip since they’re sick of her coming around with notions of possible crimes-in-the-works. And it’s not like she cries wolf. Not really. They’d be freaked too, but they’re not the ones suffering from bloody dreams that hint at disaster like some crazy, street … [Read more...]

Beyond Hope's Valley is the third book in the Big Sky series by Tricia Goyer.  Here's a summary of the book: After an extended stay in Montana, where Amish traditions are different than in her home state, Marianna Sommer returns to Indiana for two reasons, first to help her brother and his girlfriend prepare for a baby and their wedding.
