GoalForIt.com – an online chart system (Review)

Are you trying to get your kids to change their behavior?  How about complete their chores?  Or do YOU have some goals you want to reach?  Well, GoalForIt.com is a fantastic and FREE online chart system.

As you probably know, the chart system keeps tracks of little steps toward a goal (or behavioral change) or chores completed.  I remember having little charts in school that the teacher made up by hand where we got star stickers.  I think my daughter’s class still does the same for compliments (after so many compliments from other teachers, they get a pizza party).

Well, now in the 21st century, all of that is digital!  You can keep track of your child’s chore chart or behavior modification or your own goals all completely online.  The same system still applies – each time that a task is done, a “sticker” is given.  If desired, you can set up for those stickers to each accrue points of your choosing so after so much “Moolah” has been earned, your child earns a reward.  You choose the designs, tasks, days these things need to be done on, point values and rewards.  Everything is up to you.

I do like GoalForIt’s system.  I appreciate that there are different designs for children and tweens/teens.  I love the array of pre-made goals, falling under chores, behavior and healthy habits.  You can also choose to create a custom tile for other tasks that you don’t see listed.  However, I think my favorite part is the fact that we can create adult-themed goals and track our progress on those.  I’d be much more inclined to use this for myself to up my water, lower my caffeine intake and get exercising.  I also am in love with the fact that this whole site is free.

I do see a few limitations though.  The first is that I think doing this online is convenient but also loses some of the tangibility that a chart has.  The child only gets to click and doesn’t get to place a sticker or check mark.  I think getting to do that carries a lot of weight of accomplishment.

Also, while I completely understand the need for the account holder to be over 13, I find this limiting.  I suppose that you could have your child sit with you and click the mouse for each task they did that day, but again, then it’s listed under your account and not their own thing.

And that brings me to my last concern – this chart lives on your computer.  It doesn’t hang on the fridge or the wall, where you see it a million times a day.  Yes, you can receive daily (or weekly, or no) emails to remind you to track your progress, I still feel that this chart can get easily lost.

All that being said, I’m very happy with GoalForIt and would recommend it to anybody looking for an easy way to create behavior or chore charts for their children.  Again, GoalForIt.com is totally free so don’t hesitate to check it out yourself.

I was compensated for this review of GoalForIt.com as part of my involvement with MomSelect.  However, this did not influence my opinion in any way.  All thoughts are 100% my own.
