I think I may have one of the weirdest reason for frozen pipes ever. My then-boyfriend and I had just moved into our first house together. I woke up one Saturday morning to go food shopping and found that the water didn't work. I woke up the sleeping monster and he went downstairs into our tiny Yankee basement to figure it out. He looked out into the crawl space to find out that a local stray cat had moved over the lattice and crawled under the house to stay warm. This cat was already on our list for pooping in our flowerbeds so now he was really in trouble. We did get the pipes unfrozen after a few hours but it was not fun. And in this house, one time we kept the temperature too low in the finished basement and had a pipe burst in the laundry room. Thankfully this was in the evening so we heard it happen but it was still a mess.
