My no-longer boring but still safe mobile phone

I don't think I know anybody that doesn't have a cellphone these days.  Even my in-laws, the last holdouts, have them (even though they never turn them on). Anyway, I know I put a lot of thought into choosing my mobile phone.  I wanted to balance features versus price while taking into consideration what other people thought of that model.  Once that was all done, I had the LG Optimus V for Virgin Mobile (yes, I've switched from the iPhone!) It's a great phone, but kind of boring.  Also, the touch screen is somewhat vulnerable to scratches and whatnot, so I knew I wanted to make my phone more attractive and protect the screen (I'm a klutz and know it).  So it was now time to shop for accessories! Since I'm also "frugal" (as my friend calls it), I didn't want to spend that much money.  I wanted cheap cell phone faceplates that were different but didn't cost an arm and a leg (after all, I still have to pay the monthly bill!). There are so many places to look for … [Read more...]

*CLOSED* RedWeek offers budget-friendly family vacations (Review & Giveaway)

redweek

It's really hard lately to be able to justify a family vacation.  Even if you can afford the room (which is probably tiny), then you have to pay for tons of meals while you're out and about.  With $20 (bare minimum) per family per meal, add $60 per day to that room total.  And like I said, that's bare minimum.  Don't you wish that there was a cheaper alternative that allowed you to eat meals in your room? Then I welcome you to RedWeek.com.  RedWeek.com offers you a huge database of timeshare rentals to help you have the perfect family (or adult) vacation without going into debt.  This way you can have a beautiful place to stay in with plenty of space and a place to cook your meals. I know the term "timeshare" sounds pretty scary.  We've all heard horror tales about timeshares.  I know I tend to shy away from most mention of them.  However, they shouldn't be shunned - they can be a budget-friendly solution for your family vacation.  RedWeek.com offers three different blogs … [Read more...]

*CLOSED* Chicken Soup for the Soul: Just for Preteens (Review & Giveaway)

chickenpreteen

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Just for Preteens is another addition into the popular Chicken Soup for the Soul series.  This book offers another 101 stories aimed at preteens - those poor souls wedged in between kids and teens, hence the nickname, tweens. This book reads much like the one for teenagers:  real-life stories that other tweens have written, talking about different things in their lives and how they impacted them.  I read a story about a girl who had scars all over her body and was afraid to shower for PE.  I also read another piece about a girl who was so shy she hid behind a gruff facade. There are many other tales that will help anybody learn.  From family illness to death to being teased to being challenged in school, every reader of this book is sure to find at least one item that resounds within them, leaving them to decide how this idea will impact their future living. I enjoyed the pieces I read.  Again, this is a great book to keep by your bedside and read … [Read more...]

I wanted to let you all know that I'm not just slacking off in general.  No, I'm slacking off for a reason - vacation!  My family and I leave today for Florida, Mimi and Pop (my parents) and Mickey Mouse at Disney World!  As we'll be driving instead of flying, I'll have all of my "equipment" with me (you DID see the name of this blog, right?) so will be able to update periodically.  However, I won't be online as much (Disney dictates this rule while visiting) so please be patient if you email me or while waiting for winners. *CLOSED* Chicken Soup for the Soul: Just For Teenagers – Review & Giveaway

I am so glad I am not a teenager in this era.  As hard as it was in the 90's, I don't want to even know how texting and everything else complicates life.  Throw in the never-ending pressure to grow up and do certain things before your friends and I'm amazed any of us make it through that minefield as intact as we are! Chicken Soup for the Soul: Just for Teenagers is book from the famous Chicken Soup for the Soul series that contains 101 stories that to inspire and support teens.  Even if they just flip through and read one story now and then (just five minutes), they're sure to pick up something that will resound within them.   Teens (and parents!) can read stories about how real teens deal with such things as crushes, being adopted, death in the family, illnesses within their family and many other issues that arise during the teen years.  What I most appreciate about these stories are that the writers are honest.  Maybe the reacations they had to their predicaments aren't … [Read more...]
