The Mountains Bow Down by Sibella Giorello

mountains

The Mountains Bow Down by Sibella Giorello is the 4th book in the Raleigh Harmon series.  I recently reviewed the third book in the series, The Clouds Roll Away, so I was very interested to see what Raleigh Harmon was up to now. Raleigh Harmon is taking an Alaskan cruise with her mother and aunt.  A movie is being filmed onboard the ship and seems to be going as well as can be expected until the star's wife is found dead of apparent suicide.  Although Raleigh should be on vacation, she jumps into the mystery by pointing out prevailing evidence against suicide and finds herself deep into another mystery, all while still trying to hide her true career from her mother. I have to say right off the bat that I enjoyed The Mountains Bow Down much more than the book I reviewed in December.  I was instantly engrossed and found it hard to put down the book.  While once again I did get some characters mixed up at times, it really wasn't that hard to keep track of who was who.  I do have … [Read more...]

*CLOSED* Pretty Neat – organization without the guilt – Review and Giveaway

prettyneat

I'm terrible at organization.  Clutter takes over my home all over the place and I'm constantly looking for stuff.  My personal black hole and point of embarrassment?  The kitchen table.  Thankfully we don't have more kids or they'd be eating paper every day.  Every month or so, I have to just through my piles and figure out what I need and what can be recycled/thrown out.  What's in this pile?  Coupons, store circulars, bills (both paid and unpaid), greeting cards, and just general paperwork and plain old stuff.  If my parents visit, the pile gets moved to our bed for the day to make room at the table.  Great organizing, right?  Moving piles around the house and just piles in general. So anything that will potentially help me organize without making me feel like a hoarder (yes, I recognize that tendency in myself) is something I'm willing to try.  Pretty Neat is a book by Alicia Rockmore and Sarah Welch that is here to help you organize your life, NOT make you feel … [Read more...]

Kiddie Catch-All – making car travel easier for everybody

kiddie

My kids are always asking for stuff in the car - it drives me nuts!  They're still too little to understand that while I'm driving, nobody gets anything, short of an emergency.  Somebody is always dropping something or asking where this or that is or just plain whining. Kiddie Catch-All has saved my sanity.  This little net bag that fits over the side of the car seat is a life saver.  It looks so simple but is so much the answer to my prayers and grants me the precious peace and quiet in the car.  I love that it keeps the "stuff" right next to my kids' hands, unlike the seat back organizers or buckets between the seats. Now, did it really work?  You bet it did.  I just slipped it over the side of each seat and each child was instantly amazed.  The absolute best part?  It keeps each child's things separate.  My kids fight over everything, so separating toys before we start moving is amazingly helpful at stopping the fights before they even start. The Kiddie Catch-All … [Read more...]

A Trail of Ink by Mel Starr Blog Tour

ATOI book cover

Are you interested in mysteries that take place many, many years ago?  Say, in medieval times?  Then you're in for a real treat with the third installment of the Hugh de Singleton mystery series, A Trail of Ink by Mel Starr. Since I stink at giving a good book synopsis without revealing the mystery, I'll share the summary from the publisher: An excellent medieval whodunit by the author of The Unquiet Bones and A Corpse at St Andrew's Chapel. Some valuable books have been stolen from Master John Wyclif, the well known scholar and Bible translator. He calls upon his friend and former pupil, Hugh de Singleton, to investigate. Hugh's investigation leads him to Oxford where he again encounters Kate, the only woman who has tempted him to leave bachelor life behind, but Kate has another serious suitor. As Hugh's pursuit of Kate becomes more successful, mysterious accidents begin to occur. Are these accidents tied to the missing books, or to his pursuit of Kate? One of the … [Read more...]
